Are you just dipping your toes into the world of photography but don’t know how to take the best pictures yet? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered below in these five essential tips that will make you a pro in no time!
1. Figure out the correct way to hold your camera
2. Keep clicking pictures
They say practice makes perfect and to harness any skill, one must keep at it. Take pictures wherever you are and whenever you can. Do you like taking pictures of the sky? Capture pictures of it whenever you go out. Do portraits of people fascinate you? Go find a muse for your photography (without violating anyone’s consent and privacy, of course!)
3. Step out of your comfort zone
While it’s good to have figured out your own area of interest, it is also important to try new things. True learning takes place when you’re willing to engage yourself with the unfamiliar. Maybe you did not like to take pictures of objects before because you thought it was not your cup of tea. However, that may have been because you never really tried to photograph them beyond a few attempts.
4. Find a good editing tool
Want to know a little secret? Shh, don’t tell anyone though because it needs to stay between the two of us! The secret behind the pictures you marvel at on the internet is all the magic of editing! Yes, editing makes all the difference in photos. This doesn’t mean that you go and start to over-edit your work now, nope, too much of anything isn’t attractive. However, every picture needs a bit of refining and with the right editing tool, you can conquer the world of photography. Some great and free image editing tools you can use to add that perfect last touch to your pictures are VSCO and Canva.
5. Learn from your mistakes
This tip is so, so important. In order to excel at anything, it is imperative to have a growth mindset. It is okay to make mistakes; it is okay if your picture is blurry or your aperture and ISO aren’t perfect. What matters is that you keep trying to perfect your craft and figuring out what photography style is YOURS and what works best for YOU. Don’t let a few or even a hundred mistakes discourage you. At the end of the day, the first and foremost important thing is to enjoy what you’re doing. Mistakes will happen, but they can be fixed with a little extra effort and a positive mindset!
